Read-a-thon

So my students tested all week this very important test.. As a reward for perfect attendance we throwed a read- a-thon celebration!!!

Here's what we did...

First, went we went to the library to pick out books...

Next they laid with their throws on the floors and carpet to read.. Read.. Read...

After that they wrote the titles of their stories on a list to take home and show mom ;)

As a fun activity I read aloud the sequel to the first book we read this year... The kissing hand and a pocket full of kisses by Audrey Penn

Then we made a Chester mask...

This one is mine...

And these were theirs ...lol...
They came out neat... All I gave them was plates and CP... They did the rest :)

We also read a book on shapes as a coral reading ... Which they loved... And we completed a second craft... A train of shapes... IOU the pics because time ran out ... The bell rang and we dismissed,.. Our train wasn't rolling quite yet ;)

These little guys came to school too!!!

Day and Night Lessons

Day and night/El dia y la noche
hands on learning with the sun and the moon :)

Day 1: Vocab and class chart/display

Vocabulary words are the first thing you should have and introduce.

Night and day

Pocket chart with vocabulary for this unit.
I use an image for every word in my classroom. Use butcher paper for words... I was originally going to draw and post student drawings on paper... however a neater idea came up.

Use blue hanger to display student drawings of day activities and a black hanger to display night activities.

I used string and paper clips to hang work. :)

Day 2: Story and craft
Read a this wonderful story. Followed by a craft such as the one below.

Materials: blue and black paper, star stickers, yellow, blue and white crayons, cotton bal and tape (nxt time i'll tape the crafts from the back side).

Day 3: Journal and craft

Each student got two pictures to classify as day or night and complete a sentence stem.

Idea off Pinterest.. Kids loved it :)

Day 4:  Earth spinner craft... Students absolutely understood Earth rotation makes day and night... The sun stays put... Earth is the moving one!

I give this craft a 10 and thank my wonderful district's sciences trainings for the idea!

Day 5:
Disney Pixar's Day and Night video found on Youtube and writing activity.
